All of my creative work is informed by my treasured time as a kid exploring the woods near our home in Indiana. I began as a realistic painter, and my intent has always been to interpret simple, humble beauty. A feather, a piece of driftwood, a bleached bone...all are worthy of a portrait. But over time, I discovered that what I really want to paint is the underlying spirit that these objects and the places I find them share. I want to understand what that spirit is and make it visible to others. So I left realism and began to investigate the abstract beauty of places, and things, and moments in time. By doing so, I hope to understand why I have been drawn to the woods, the beaches and the trails where they are found, and why I find that experience so thrilling.
